Care
How to Care for Your Saree
· 1 min read

A well-made saree can last for decades. A few simple habits keep its colour and drape as beautiful as the day it arrived.
Washing
- Silk and Patola: dry-clean.
- Hand-dyed pieces (Bandhani, Batik): dry-clean for the first few washes. Later, if the care label allows, wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent.
- Printed cottons: wash gently in cold water, separately at first.
- Never soak hand-dyed sarees for long, and avoid bleach.
Drying
Dry in the shade. Strong sunlight can fade natural and hand-applied colours over time.
Ironing
Iron on the reverse, at a temperature suited to the fabric. For silk, place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the saree.
Storing
- Store sarees folded in soft cotton or muslin, not plastic, so the fabric can breathe.
- Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent creases.
- Keep zari work away from perfume and moisture, and add it last when you dress.
A note on hand-dyed colour
Small variations in hand-dyed and hand-tied textiles are part of their character — each one is made individually.
